2007 and 2008 youth art connection programs

The STUDIO
In-depth workshops concentrating on sculpture, painting, printmaking, and multi-media. Teens are provided with instruction and materials to explore a variety of themes and concepts at YAC.

BGCMA Fine Arts Program and Exhibition
Multi-media arts program open to all members age 6 - 18 within the arts room at each Club and at Fine Arts Workshops held at YAC.
Deadline for Exhibition Submissions: October 20, 2007

Drew and Betty Fuller Enrichment through Classical Music
A music enrichment program in partnership with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra providing in-Club instruction by a Music Specialist, visits by ASO musicians, and field trips to concerts. Participating Clubs are Jones, Warren, Lawrenceville, and Douglasville.

BGCMA Digital Arts Festival Presentation and Exhibition
A media arts program for ages 10 and up focusing on moviemaking, web page design, graphic arts, and music making. Held in the tech labs of all 21 clubs.

techCREATIVE
In-depth instruction for teens using technology as a creative tool for artmaking. Focus for 2008 is on using Photoshop and animation.

BGCMA ImageMakers Photo Contest and Exhibition
A photography program for all ages focusing on traditional and alternative processes; held in the art rooms of all 21 clubs. Supplemental workshops in alternative processes are offered at YAC.

Marel Brown Creative Writing Program
A creative writing program for members age 6 - 18 held in the learning centers of all Clubs. Creative Writing Workshops are also held at YAC.

Kiwanis Kids Cultural Challenge
A field day style event where members of all ages demonstrate their investigations in the cultures of countries worldwide. Sponsored by the Atlanta Kiwanis Club.
October 4, 9 am - 3 pm, Lawrenceville Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta

International PaintPals (IPP) provides a creative forum for young people worldwide to learn about important issues, to express their personal views, and to share cultures and friendships through the universal language of art. The focus is on education and diverse participation. To fulfill this mission IPP promotes international painting exhibitions, related educational programs, inter-country artists visits, artwork exchanges, and art sale fundraising activities for children's charities. IPP is currently organizing an international exhibit of children's work to open in Beijing in 2008.

The Youth Art Connection PaintPals College Art Scholarship is available annually to senior Club Members in good standing who are interested in pursuing arts studies in college. The award is primarily based on the student's prior arts studies and involvement with BGCMA Arts and Cultural Enrichment programs both in the Clubs and at YAC.

Paint the Panda was a summer art contest in celebration of the 1st birthday of Mei Lan, Zoo Atlanta’s baby panda. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta is joined Zoo Atlanta in inviting youth 18 years of age and younger to participate in this celebration by painting images of giant pandas. These works were sent to the Beijng Youth Federation iin Beijing, China as a goodwill gesture from our children to the Chinese children.
